Members of the Friends of Fred Smith, upon payment of their dues, receive the semi-annual printed newsletter, which contains articles detailing the activities of the Friends of Fred Smith at the Wisconsin Concrete Park. These tax-deductible donations, which may be earmarked for specific projects such as sculpture preservation or educational programming, are a vital part of the park’s success. Those who live in the area or have talents they would like to offer are encouraged to volunteer. Without the continual support of the public, everything that has been accomplished would not have been possible.
“It’s gotta be in ya to do it,” Fred Smith said, and this has become the motto of the group—next to “Donations Appreciated,” of course! Art, for Smith, wasn’t something he could really explain; it was just in him to do it. Similarly, support given to the park—which may come naturally to someone in the art profession—might not be expected of a logger and tavern owner. The question isn’t, “What’s logical for you?” but “What’s in you?”
